We
came to Whale Pass 16 years ago, it was still a small
logging camp then, and I was thinning trees for the
Forest Service in Red Bay, which is 30 miles on up the
Island.
The only fuel on this end was in Whale
Pass. After coming here a few time for fuel, we decided
this was the place to raise our three children.
In 1996 the Island was shutting down
fast, the forest was being closed to logging. We decided
it was so beautiful here and the fishing so good that we
would build a few cabins and make it affordable for the
working person.
After a couple of years of blood, sweat,
and tears we finally had a couple of cabins and a small
general store standing. The first two years of operation
were tough, until word of mouth finally took hold.
Now we have a nice little "no
frills just thrills" business. When we say the
fishing
is some of the best in Alaska, It's the truth.
The reason being it's a geographical
thing here in our no name bay. You have to see it to
believe it.
